 One or two year program, two or three hours per day

(Sophomores may be eligible - must be interviewed by instructor first)

Prerequisite:  Basic art classes

Related College or Technical School majors:  Art, Advertising, Graphic Design, Visual Communications

Job Opportunities: Graphic Designer, Advertising, Layout Technician, Freelance Artist

Students are taught the job skills needed for entry-level positions in art-related occupations. Students should have a background in art classes and be very self-motivated to be most successful in this class. Students will be instructed in basic elements of design, drawing, illustration, and technical pre-press techniques. Students will be exposed to computer programs used in the industry such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Students who are serious about design, organized, independent workers, who are willing to learn, and who multi-task will enjoy this class.

A sample of first year topics/activities:
Typography
Major emphasis on logo design
Advertising layout & design
Poster/invitation/brochure design


A sample of second year topics/activities:

Advanced projects using first year skills and techniques

Supply cost to student: Approximately $100 or more depending on the art supplies you choose. List will be sent to students before school starts. Plus $25 to instructor in the first week for a class sweatshirt with student logo design.
