Related College or Technical School Majors:  Veterinary Science, Veterinary Technician

Job Opportunities:  Veterinary assistant 

This program offers the student an introduction to the science and art of providing professional support to veterinarians.  The duties of veterinary assistants usually include restraining, moving, feeding, and exercising patients, cleaning, and other clinical support tasks.  Students will also be introduced to post-secondary opportunities in Veterinary science.

 

A sample of first year topics/activities:

  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Medical terminology and assisting skills
  • Job shadowing and laboratory experience

 

A sample of second year topics/activities:

  • Sterile and surgical procedures
  • Assist with surgery, prepare and administer medications
  • Obtain lab samples
  • Work with large and exotic animals

 

Supply cost to student:

  • Scrubs $40
  • White leather shoes $30
  • Misc. supplies 
    • HOSA dues *optional) $15
