One or two year program, three hours per day

Prerequisite:  none

Related College or Technical School Majors:  Hospitality, Business Management

Job Opportunities:  Hotel, Food Service, Hospitality Industry

The greater Indianapolis area contains dozens of large hotels. Each hotel is under the operation of a CEO or Manager. Generally this is some one who has worked his/her way up the ladder by working in the various departments that makeup the total operation of the hotel. This new program will do star you up the ladder while you are still in high school.

A licensed teacher who has gone through the same training as well as worked in the hotel industry will teach the Hotel Career Academy program. Each student will be assigned a mentor and will spend part of his/her day working in the various departments. Opportunities will also be available for paid employment. Interested? Call 259-5265 for more details, or see you high school counselor. Mark your calendar to attend an open house on January 23, 2002,6-8 p.m.

The Hotel Career Academy is a three way partnership formed between the Indiana Department of Education, J. Everett Light, and The Holiday Inn Select North.  Students spend four out of five days on-site learning hands-on lodging and food service skills.  They have the opportunity to interact with actual hotel guests and employees.  Students will have the opportunity to research many types of hospitality careers and have the chance to visit different work sites.  After completing the two-year curriculum and work experience, the students will be presented with a Certificate of Completion from the major industry association.
