One year program, three hours per day Prerequisite: none Related College or Technical School Majors: Firefighting Job Opportunities: Fire Departments Students will be taught the skills needed to qualify for the national certification for level I and II Firefighter. Fire behavior and suppression will be one of the major topics of discussion at the beginning of the class. Dispatch communications, strategy & tactics, along with search and rescue techniques will be emphasized. Firefighting equipment will be taught with a hands-on approach with our own fire engine. Ride outs on fire engines with local fire departments is also a possibility for clinical experiences. Fire prevention, public education and awareness will also be discussed. Supply cost to student: Approximately $125 for uniform and other supplies.
Fire Service History Successful completion of the course written and practical examination will enable the student to be nationally and locally certified as a Firefighter I & II. This is a three-hour class, open to all 11th and 12th grade students. No prerequisite classes.
