One or two year program, three hours per day

Prerequisite:  none

Related College or Technical School Majors:  Early Childhood Ed, Elementary Education

Job Opportunities:  Childcare centers, camps, in home child care

The primary focus of this class is to prepare high school students for entry-level positions in early childhood related fields or to continue a similar educational path at a post secondary institution.  Students prepare for these roles by studying childcare techniques using a hands-on approach.  Their time is divided between formal class work, independent study and volunteer working in the licensed childcare center.    Students are given a variety of opportunities to explore career paths throughout the school year.

 

A sample of first year topics/activities:

  • Learn child care licensing regulations
  • Work in Day Care Center one day per week
  • Develop and teach activity plans
  • 6 week Internship

 

A sample of second year topics/activities:

  • Work in Day Care Center two days per week
  • Develop unit plans
  • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly schedules
  • 6 week Internship

 

Supply cost to student:  Cost of a physical and TB test

Current News

FCCLA Giving Tree
The Early Childhood FCCLA chapter is sponsoring a family through United Christmas Service. They have been involved with UCS for over 20 years. Students will be shopping for age appropriate toy and clothing for the 6 children in the family. In addition, they have set up a giving tree to encourage classmates and staff members to bring in food items for the family. Items will be delivered to the family on Saturday, December 22.

The overall program coordinators are Brandi Gipson, AM class and Bianca Clark, PM class.early child1
