Cosmetology Students Assist Domestic Violence Victims

Cosmo students made a presentation entitled "Unconditional Acceptance" on November 1st to the Youth as Resources group.  Madeline Brown, Kelsey Moore, Nicole Francis, Janee' Shoemaker and Kassandra Keltner joined their instructors in making this presentation after researching the growing problem of domestic violence in the United States.  These students were instrumental in obtaining a grant that will allow our Cosmo students to provide "beauty make overs" for women who have been the recipients of the mental and physical pain of violence.

We have also received donations from Bath and Body Works, Subway, and Bob Ricker from Marianna Beauty Supplies.  More donations are welcome.  Please contact Mr. Chris Wilcox, Cosemtology Instructor, if you would like to make a donation.

The J. Everett Light Academy of Beauty is helping in making a difference for the citizens of the Indianapolis area.

So many people believe that the cosmetology department only does hair, how wrong!

Kaylee Phelps, is a second year student with-in the cosmetology department.

On February 12, 2007 she was introduced to the world of making wigs by her instructor Mr. Chris.   With support knowledge and determination she was able to finish her design and also donated her project to a friend who actually was her LPN nurse, Debbie Schutz.

Debbie Schutz is now going through cancer treatment.  With the help and the knowledge of Ms. Kaylee Phelps she has given Debbie Schutz something to smile about.

Congratulation Kaylee.
