Prerequisite:  Keyboarding, Algebra  Second year requires teacher permission

Related College or Technical School Majors:  Computer Programming, Advanced Computer Repair

First year

A+ is a curriculum sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association and certifies an individual’s knowledge of computer hardware components and operating systems upon completing the examination.  Earning the A+ certification means the student possesses the knowledge to set up, test, and repair a PC computer as well as understanding the latest Windows operating systems.

Reading and writing skills are important in this class.  Technical manuals are an important part of this course of study.  Students will be expected to be able to read these instructions and be able to write descriptions of repair procedures.

Students will learn basic procedures for adding and removing computer components, identifying common peripheral ports, and proper procedures for installing IDE and SCSI devices. Students will learn basic troubleshooting skills as well as system configuration, disk management, and software upgrading procedures.

 

Second year

Students will study the Network+ certification that covers the technical knowledge of networking support and administration.  Students will gain the knowledge to configure and operate a variety of networking products.  This course covers a wide range of vendor and product neutral networking technologies that can also serve as a prerequisite for vendor-specific IT certifications.

Supply cost to student:  Approx. $20 for ESD wrist strap and disks
