One or two year program, three hours per day

Prerequisite:  none

Related College or Technical School Majors: Engineering, Tool and Die

Job Opportunities:  Tool and die machinists

This program is in conjunction with Vincennes University who will grant six college credits for those students successfully completing all requirements.

This course is designed to prepare students with entry-level skills to enter the area of tool and die and other areas of the machine/manufacturing industry or for post-secondary institutions. Students will learn through a variety of hands-on experiences the processes used by manufactures throughout the global market. Students will be required to work with critical tolerances using manual and digital equipment to measure and layout their work. The sever shortage for highly skilled technicians in this area has made this a very marketable area not only for employment but also advancement. An ideal course for students interested in pursuing an engineering career or interest

Suggested Prerequisites: General Metals, Metal Fabrication 1 & 2, Drafting, Algebra.

Supply cost to student:  Less than $50 for supplies

Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 14, 2008

Sorry you missed it!   If you weren't here ----- we missed you.

A lively discussion ensued concerning the state of the manufacturing community, the shifting of job emphases, and the continuing need for skilled employees.

The existence of C.C.A. (career advancement accounts) thru Work One as a possible source for finding funding for further education was brought up.

The possibility of opening the shop up for "open shop" sessions to increase student interest was brought up and will be looked into.

The possibility of working with the Boy Scouts explorer post in the area of machine trades was brought up and will be looked into also.

The use of a bi-monthly direct to people via e-mail marketing letter was raised.
I  need e-mail addresses for this.

Meeting reminder phone contacts to remind busy people of our meetings were requested.
I need phone numbers so that I may follow through with this.

It was decided that early morning meeting times were a good idea, and that Thursday was generally a good day for a meeting.  We will follow up on this in the future.

I retired last May 2007.  I came back to teach the vocational manufacturing class because I  enjoy seeing what it has done for some of the young men and women who have taken the class with the choices for their future that it has opened up for them.

Looking forward to seeing you the next time.  You ARE an important part of the puzzle.

 Thank you,
 Tom Murray

 Newsworthy:

 Letter from a former student:

Hello, Mr. Murray!

How are you doing these days? I was wondering if I could stop in for a visit some time…? I’m working at Westfield Steel, Inc., now. I was on a hydraulic ban-saw, but I told them I had AutoCAD experience and now I’m a draftsman for the company. Things are going great, I couldn’t be happier with this job (well I could always be happy with more $$$). Let me know if I could visit some time down there at J.E.L. I’d like to see what you’re workin’ on or what you’ve done with the shop. Take care.
